Ovation advertises MCS148 as the first acoustic-electric mandolin designed as acoustic-electric from the ground up. It is a mandolin with a standard Ovation body contour, only scaled down to fit around 13-7/10" long scale. Back and side panels are merged into one bowl made of composite material. Top panel is made of spruce and it features multi-ply binding around the edges. There are two groups of small sound holes, one on the each side. Both groups have wooden epaulets around them. Top is painted in Red Ruby Burst color with high gloss finish and it is the only color option available for this model. Bridge is made of rosewood and chrome plated tuners are die-cast. V-shaped neck is made of mahogany and topped with 23-fret rosewood fingerboard.
