500/1 Vintage `59 is a fully hollow electric bass, also known as the Violin Bass. this one emerged in the 1950s as an alternative to the big and heavy solid bodied basses of the era. Precision bass dominated the 1950s with it`s solid body and 34" scale. Hofner then came up with the Violin Bass, which was hollow and had a 30" scale. Many players switched over (most famous of them being Paul McCartney of the Beatles). More than 50 years later, Violin Bass is still popular and very attractive bass. 500/1 Vintage `59, however, pays homage to one of the earliest incarnations of this legendary bass. It comes with a fully hollow violin-shaped body (maple sides and back, spruce top), two-piece bridge, two single-coil pickups, three-piece maple neck and a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard.
