290 is the basic solid-bodied electric guitar in the Collings catalog. It comes with a single cutaway body made of mahogany. The top is flat and it features no top wood covers or bindings, for Collings went for the simplicity and efficiency. However, there is a plastic pickguard on the top. The bridge section on 290 consists of TonePros tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail bar. Both come with chrome plating. In the pickups compartment Lollar supplies a pair of P-90 pickups. Controls for these pickups consist of split volume and tone knobs accompanied by a three-way toggle switch. The neck on this model is attached to the body via the mortise & tenon joint. Rosewood fingerboard is equipped with 22 frets and dot position inlays. Gotoh tuners, 24-7/8" scale, 12" fingerboard radius and 1-11/16" wide nut complete the specs list.
