Limited Edition Longboard Stratocaster HSS is the eighth installment in Fender`s popular 10 for `15 series. This is one special Stratocaster, it was inspired by Fender`s SoCal roots and the surf subculture of the fifties and sixties. Also, it features back-mounted electronics and a transparent back cover. Aged plastics, natural oil finish and modern Strat headstock complete the visual theme of this unique double-cut.
The most notable influence of the Surf style is the "Longboard" construction of the body which mimics the construction of then popular surf boards with several different tonewoods sandwiched together to form the period correct Strat body. Ash, mahogany, maple, rosewood and walnut (looking from the edges towards the center) are used in construction of this beauty. And, instead of some solid Dupont-styled colors or seductive bursts, Fender has opted for the hand rubbed oil finish. Pickguard was, of course, scrapped from the specs list. Back side features a transparent electronics cover, four-bolt neck plate and separate string holes with chrome rings.
Neck is made of maple with a rosewood stripe in the middle. Modern C profile is featured in the back and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on top. The neck ends in a modern Strat headstock instead of the big one which graced the fifties` and the sixties` Strats. Fingerboard is equipped with medium jumbo frets, 1.685" synthetic bone nut and 9.5" radius, a pretty common and modern setup.
Electronics section rocks the recently introduced Shawbucker pickup in zebra outfit in the bridge position and a pair of N3 noiseless singles in the middle and neck. Master volume, master tone and a five-position blade switch make up a simple, yet very effective controls unit. Instead of the iconic two-point synchronized trem bridge, Fender has opted for a string-through hardtail bridge with completely adjustable saddles. On the opposite end of the standard 25-1/2" scale, staggered and sealed tuners can be found.
