It's got all the right pieces you'd expect in a great 335. Neck shape is slightly chunky and feels just right. The '57's have the tone you want. It's easy to go from blues to screaming and most everthing in between. It's incredible with just a bit of dirt added. Setup was excellent out of the box, but anything you want can be achieved with minimal fuss. The finish was perfect. I bought this one right off the line at the factory in Memphis...literally! It was finished just the day before and had not been moved out of manufacturing inventory. Left the pickguard off because I couldn't see covering up any of the birdseye. It's just beautiful. Considering how few birdseye exotics there are out there, the difference between this and a 'regular' figured top natural was a no-brainer. If stolen, I'd be standing on the factory doorstep the next day to put a deposit on the next one out the door. I currently own 19 guitars ranging from a '55 Gib J-160e, '78 LP 25/50, '91 US Strat, '98 Jazz, '01 P Bass, '01 Larrivee DV09K and a smattering of others. I've always felt that if it doesn't raise your heartrate a little when you pick it up to play, you need to find another guitar. I believe I'll have them slide this one in my coffin when I'm done.

My es335 exotic wood guitar is a beautiful and great sounding instrument. It looks wonderful under colored stage lighting. It certainly makes me appear dressed up when playing this guitar in a nice suit. I did not buy this guitar for its sex appeal though. I was returning a typical red es335 that I had bought, and the store was willing to give me a great deal to avoid giving me a cash refund. I spent three hours playing every 335 in the store, new and used. This exotic wood model tuned easily and stayed where it was put. A very important detail in a guitar. It sounded the most like the 335 sound I expected. I had always loved blonde Gibson hollow body guitars and the patina they develop with age. Considering that I intended to get a lifetime guitar with this purchase, I thought this would be the instrument that I would be most happy with after 20 years. It does invite compliments from guitar lovers when seen in photos or up close in small venues. If I could change any part of the guitar, I would have preferred Kluson tuners over the roto-matics. I think I also will eventually replace the pickups with a darker sounding pair. The 57s are a bit bright and character-less. I'm a fan of Lollar pickups and their Imperial humbucker has been my favored model in past mods. He makes one under wound to suit the classic 335. Otherwise there is nothing else I would change in this guitar.
