2014 SGJ is the cheapest and most affordable SG model with Gibson USA badge ever. It is a solid and double-cut guitar with a flat-top mahogany body. It is, however, equipped with the traditionally beveled edges. Simple, thin and lightweight, body of 2014 SGJ is paired with a set in maple neck. Maple is the new standard neck material for entry level models in Gibson USA catalog, while the mahogany necks are preserved for the intermediate and upscale ones. Bridge section on the top features the classic Gibson construction. Six-saddled tune-o-matic bridge is backed up by a stoptail bar. In the front, Gibson installs a pair of zebra-coiled 1961 humbuckers with alnico V magnets. These pickups give SGJ tone better than anything else in it`s price class. Far better. Split volume and tone knobs and the classic three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the standard SG controls unit. Maple neck is fit with a `50s rounded contour in the back, despite the fact that SGs made their debut in the 1960s (as of 2014, entry level LP and SG models have `50s contour). On it`s top, there is a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and 1.695" wide string nut. The MSRP for this one is set at $544.
