Like many of the now cult guitars, ES-335 has had a number of defining and history-changing incarnations. Les Paul had `59 Standard, `57 Goldtop with first PAF pickups, Flying V sprung back to life with 1968 model and Explorer`s 1984 model redefined the heavy metal guitar. ES-335 has a similar story. Though it was introduced in 1958, 1959 and 1963 models defined and standardized what is considered a true 335 and what`s not. 2016 1963 ES-335TD is the closest possible one can get to 1963 ES-335 without actually owning one. It comes with a semi-hollow body made of maple and poplar. Back, sides and top are made of three-ply maple/poplar/maple panels, while the center block is solid maple. Adirondack spruce bracing is also featured beneath the cream-bound top. One-piece mahogany neck comes with a 19th fret joint and 1963 contour in the back. It is topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with block inlays (335 started out with dot inlays in 1958, but on subsequent models block inlays replaced them). HMS humbuckers deliver the classic Gibson semi-hollow tone and feature also classic controls unit (2x volume, 2x tone, 3-way toggle switch). Two-piece bridge and vintage Keystone tuners are also there. This beauty costs $4,449 and is perfect for vintage 335 lovers and guitar collectors.
