Les Paul '70s Tribute is one of four tribute models made in Les Paul`s honor. These new, and other updated models from Gibson are a part of the special catalog overhaul, for 2013 is a year dedicated to Les Paul, his work and innovations and his huge contribution to guitar world. Accordingly, these four tribute guitars come representing four different periods of his work and career. '70s Tribute pays an homage to the Les Paul models from the era of heavy rock and early metal. It comes with super strong tone and stripped down body. Mahogany back is weight relieved with strategically distributed chambers. Maple top is carved and made of two pieces of wood. This approach is still used today with modern Les Paul models. Binding and pickguard are scratched from the list of specs. Bridge section on this model is made of two parts. In the front Tonepros tune-o-matic bridge is installed and in the back, there`s a stoptail bar, also supplied by Tonepros. This is Gibson`s favorite bridge combo and has remained in the catalog for six decades. Pickups department on each of these Tribute models brings something different, which suits the particular decade or period they are dedicated to. '50s Tribute comes with P-90 pickups, '60s Tribute is equipped with PAF-styled humbuckers, while the '70s Tribute has open-coil Dirty Fingers humbuckers. These are controlled through separate volume and tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch. Neck on this model sports a characteristic mid-'70s contour on the back side and it`s set-in. On the top it features a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, figured acrylic trapezoid inlays, 12" radius and 1-11/16" corian nut. Wine Red,Vintage Sunburst, Gold Top and Ebony color options are available. Like all 2013 models from LP and SG series, this one also has an option to upgrade from the Grover tuners to robotic Min-ETune tuners.
