New 2016 SG range starts with the affordable SG Faded 2016T. It costs $739 which is, for Gibson`s catalog, very modest (even for the SG line). The new starter SG brings all of the bare necessities of rock and that classic Gibson feel and playability. Only two color options are available - Worn Cherry and Worn Brown. Both have the big SG pickguard, chrome hardware and satin finish.
SG Faded 2016T starts off with a beveled mahogany body and set in mahogany neck. Traditionally, SG models have no carved top, and the tradition is a big theme on 2016T models. Instead, big black pickguard encompasses the pickups and the front half of the bridge. One-piece mahogany neck comes with a rounded profile, as slim taper profile is saved for more expensive models. The neck is covered with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, also made of a single piece of wood. It features 1.695" TekToid nut, dot inlays and 12" radius.
Pair of 490 pickups (R in the neck and T in the bridge), grant this low-cost SG some pretty high-class performance qualities, though raw, dirty, straight-up rock `n` roll is their home turf. The classic SG setup is completed with a two-piece top-load bridge (tune-o-matic bridge with stoptail bar in the back) and some Green Key Grover tuners on the other side of the 24-3/4" scale. If you like your rock `n` roll hot, heavy and raw, then these are the horns for you.
