Standard has been a part of the SG range since its inception, back in 1961 and has remained a staple feature in all subsequent lineup incarnations. It is the model by which all other SGs are measured, an SG among SGs. In 2016, Gibson has decided to split the entire six-string lineup into two sections - Traditional and High Performance. High Performance Standard is a modern rocker cloaked in classic SG outfit and with classic Gibson tone.
The body of the High Performance SG Standard for 2016 is, like every SG Standard before it, made entirely of mahogany. Lightweight construction, beveled top with a large (black, of course) pickguard and twin horns is paired with a rounded mahogany neck with fast access heel in the back and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on top. Fingerboard is equipped with a 1.745" zero-fret nut made of titanium, trapezoid inlays and 12" radius.
Modern/Vintage 490R in neck position and 498T in bridge position deliver a versatile tone, covering all the bases from vintage blues to modern hard rock. Other premium features include: titanium bridge saddles, robotic G Force tuners, noiseless pickup switch, gold plated output jack and titanium-made zero fret nut. This mighty Standard costs $1,549 and delivers everything a fan of classic SG might expect, plus several modern features which further improve the already awesome SG concept.
