Shred-X Explorer is a black-clad monster completely focused on metal and shredding. Razor-sharp contours of this model are cloaked in black paint with glossy finish. Hardware, pots and switches are also black, contributing to the overall stealth appearance of this Explorer. Body of this six-string shred machine is solid, flat on top and made of mahogany. This feature adheres to Gibson tradition, discarding both th basswood and alder, which dominate the shred guitar section. Pickups are active EMG 85s, which is another non-characteristic shred feature. Shred-oriented guitars usually feature passive electronics. Bridge section is equipped with a Kahler locking tremolo bridge. Kahlers have significantly lower profile than Floyd Rose bridges and have less complicated construction. Mahogany neck is set in and topped with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard.
