Baritone scales came to prominence in recent years due to the fact that many bands in rock and metal started using low tunings, while still playing their regular six-stringers. For tunings lower than C, it is best to have the seventh string, or a longer scale. John Petrucci and Music Man are taking part in the baritone game with BFR Baritone model. It features 27-3/4" scale and six strings. Body of this six-string beast is solid, double cut and made of either alder or mahogany. Quilt maple is used as the top wood cover. Tremolo bridge is of non-locking sort. DiMarzio LiquiFire sits in the neck, while the Crunch Lab is in the bridge position. Bolted maple neck is topped with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard.
