Dreadnought Junior is by far the most affordable addition to the 2015 catalog. It is the first and, thus far, the only model in the newly established Junior series. As opposed to the tradition of big, spacious dreads, Junior comes with slightly diminished dimensions, or as Martin declares, it comes in at about 15/16" of the regular dread size. Solid sapele is utilized on the sides and the back of this affordable Junior, while the top is made of solid Sitka spruce. A quite impressive feat for a $799 guitar, especially taking into consideration the pricing policies within the Martin catalog. Black and white boltaron binding replace the grained ivoroid and abalone found on the expensive models. Also, the plain tortoise pickguard is featured on the top, along with the simple rosette. Instead of the solid ebony, black richlite is elected as the bridge and fingerboard material (both the sonic and physical resemblance were taken into consideration). Usually, mahogany is used for the neck, but this time it steps down and hardwood takes its role. Special Dreadnought Junior profile is being featured in the back as a response to the shortened scale (Dreadnought Junior has a 24" scale). 20-fret fingerboard features generic white boltaron dot inlays and the plain headstock is fit with a set of six die-cast tuning machines.
