Koa is one of the most exclusive tone woods available on the market. Being very expensive and hard to obtain, it is used primarily as a status symbol. M-38 features back and side panels made of solid koa in combination with solid spruce sound board on top. Koa has exceptional tone and it`s similar, but slightly brighter than mahogany. Sound board is equipped with spruce bracing on the inner side. Bracing is laid out in x pattern. Martin has assigned only natural color with gloss finish to this model. Bridge section is equipped with a regular belly-contoured bridge made of ebony. 20-fret fingerboard is also made of ebony and it features arrow inlays, 16" radius and 1.75" bone nut. V-contoured neck is made of hardwood.
