SR series of the solid-bodied electric basses has finally got a new king of the hill. It is the mighty SR800, a model unveiled at the NAMM show earlier this year. This one both looks and sounds stunning. And it plays like a dream. Considering the price range it is in, this could easily be the best Ibanez bass in current production. Solid, double-cut body is made of mahogany back and poplar burl top. Gorgeous grain of the poplar is visible through Amber color scheme and high gloss finish. Top is wonderfully carved and features no pickguard. Construction-wise, body of SR800 is equipped with a bolt-on neck joint. Neck is made of five pieces of jatoba and bubinga. These two tone woods give the smooth and fast feel for the fretting hand. On the top, there`s a 24-fret fingerboard made of rosewood. Pickups used for this model are Bartolini Mk-1 in both the bridge and neck positions. Master volume, balance knob, miniswitch and three-band equalizer are featured in the controls unit. B-300 bridge with top-load construction and gold plating is featured in the back.
