The Standard series Stratocaster is a (at least it should be) mirror of the times it`s made in and the mirror of the player`s wants and needs in that current point in time. It`s mission is to provide the modern, yet recognizable Fender tone, reliable construction and quality materials while still remaining well within the grasp of a working musician. With 2015 Standard series Stratocasters, including this one (Standard Stratocaster HSS), Fender has, yet again, captured the essence of today`s players` wants and needs and managed to offer them in a distinctive Strat package. Solid and flat alder body and bolt-on maple neck with modernized C profile in the back still have what it takes to deliver a competitive tone and playability. The modern tremolo bridges (a Floyd Rose bridge in this case) are still among the premier tremolo options on the market. 2015 Standard series models are uniformly equipped with Blacktop pickups. HSS set on this model offers a huge range of tones and styles. From super aggressive modern hard rock/metal growl of the zebra-coiled humbucker, through the hot and screaming leads of the neck position single, all the way to mellow twang and soft bluesy chimes, it`s all there packed into this trio of Blacktop bad boys. Even the bridge position single-coil tone is achievable, as of 2015 Standard series models with humbuckers have coil-splitting ability (push/pull switches are introduced). The closing section of this review stresses probably the only down side 2015 Standard series has compared to other affordable rock-oriented budget lines - the lack of the almost mandatory 22nd fret (2015 lineup follows the Standard series tradition and limits the fret count to 21).
