Gibson Custom Collector`s Choice #12 1957 Les Paul Goldtop
Les Paul Electric Guitars by Gibson Custom
Les Paul Electric Guitars by Gibson Custom
Proven over almost six decades of history, 1957 Goldtop has proven to be the Goldtop of all the Goldtops ever made. This was also the year Gibson introduced the mythic PAF humbuckers, thus creating an icon to last through ages. Simple, unbelievably precise and with the authentic 1950s Les Paul charm, Collector`s Choice #12 1957 Les Paul Goldtop is very hard to tell apart from the original 1957 Goldtop which has been taken good care of, for the Gibson`s Custom Shop luthiers have outdone themselves this time. Players not familiar with Gibson Custom Shop guitar making quality might even be tricked into the idea that the Gibson luthiers have found a portal which leads back to 1957, or have constructed a fully operational time machine. Solid and single-cut body of this marvel is made of top grade mahogany and plain maple. One-piece base is solid, thick and has the flat back. On the top, to stay true to the 1957 Goldtop roots, Gibson Custom installs the revered two-piece top made of plain maple. This particular combo (together with the mahogany/flamed maple and mahogany/quilt maple) has made Les Paul a legend we know it today. As it is stated in it`s name, this gorgeous six-stringer is available only in Goldtop color with a dark back, nitrocellulose lacquer finish and nickel hardware. Also, there is a vintage-styled pickguard. Bridge unit is made up of two pieces, tune-o-matic bridge in the front and a stoptail bar in the back. In the front, Gibson Custom installs a pair of Custom Bucker pickups (active humbuckers based on the original PAF pickups). Together with the finest mahogany and maple Gibson Custom has, Custom Buckers recreate the authentic 1950s tone with all the warmth and mellowness the original 1957 Goldtop had and was loved for. Controls section is a classic one; it has two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch. No push-pulls, mini-switches and computer software, only the essentials. Mahogany neck is attached to the body the traditional way, via the mortise & tenon joint with the use of the tested and tried Franklin Titebond adhesive. Full and rounded 1950s profile is found in the back, which might throw off some of the pickier players who are accustomed to the ultra-flat necks on contemporary guitars. For the experienced Les Paul veterans, this neck will be a dream come true. On it`s top, Gibson Custom installs a 22-fret fingerboard made of top-grade Indian rosewood. Standard-sized frets, 1-11/16" wide nylon string nut, 12" radius and figured acrylic trapezoid inlays are all featured on the fingerboard. Also, it has the aged creme reissue binding found around the golden maple top. For tradition`s sake, Gibson Custom has opted to use the vintage Kluson Deluxe tuners with aged nickel plating and 12:1 gear ratio. The MSRP for Collector`s Choice #12 1957 Les Paul Goldtop is set at $6,165.
