Number 28 in the acclaimed Collector`s Choice series belongs to the replica of the 1958 Les Paul STP Burst. It is a remake of Ronnie Montrose`s 1958 LP which he played throughout his career. 1958 Les Paul STP Burst is a limited edition model, like the others in the Collector`s Choice lineup. Only 300 will be made. To begin with, this exclusive six-stringer has a solid one-piece body made of mahogany. It`s completely flat in the back (back in the 1950s, Les Paul models were made with flat backs) and has no weight relief chambers. Top is made of two matching pieces of figured maple with the faded Cherry Sunburst (STP Burst) color and aged creme binding around the edges. Both the paint and the hardware are slightly aged, to mimick some 50+ years of play and wear. This treatment only adds more charm to already very seductive 1958 Les Paul STP Burst. Bridge unit on this model is a standard one, it includes a good old tune-o-matic bridge in the front and a stoptail bar in the back. Both are plated in nickel (nickel hardware used to be the standard Gibson hardware before the switch to the now standard chrome-plated hardware). Pickups in the front are the magnificent Custom Buckers (both the bridge and neck positions have them). They are controlled through a classic LP setup: two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch. Neck is made of mahogany (Gibson`s traditional neck wood) with maple spline, which looks gorgeous with the nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Contour in the back is full, rounded, true 1958 contour. On it`s top, Gibson Custom installs a standard 22-fret fingerboard with trapezoid inlays, 1-11/16" wide string nut and 12" radius.
