Collector`s Choice is relatively recent addition to the Gibson Custom catalog. It`s main task is to recreate the most popular Gibson models from 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Thus far, the collection has hit double digits and every model was sold out amazingly fast. What sets this series apart from other tribute, vintage and reissue series is that it`s models are not just based on the legendary guitars of the past, but are almost perfectly identical to the m and the state one would expect to find them in after four, five, six decades of play and good care. Collector`s Choice #17 1959 Les Paul Louis is the 17th installment in this marvelous series and it comes with a classic 1959 LP body, meaning it has the same, exact measurements and is made of the same materials (solid, one-piece mahogany base with a two-piece maple top). This one was developed, tested and perfected with the help of Keith Nelson of SoCal rockers Buckcherry. Together with Gibson`s best luthiers and engineers, Keith has worked night and day to complete one of the best possible replicas of 1959 LP. Slightly aged Dirty Lemon Burst color scheme is decorated with the classic 1950s creme inding around the top and matched with nickel-plated hardware. Also, there`s a plastic pickguard on the top. Traditionally, nitrocellulose lacquer is used as the sealer. Two-piece bridge unit is the classic tune-o-matic/stoptail bar combo and in it`s front, Gibson Custom installs the Burstbucker 3 in the bridge and `57 Classic in the neck position (a combo so close to the original PAF tone and feel, that it might fool some of the less experienced LP players). Two tone knobs, two volume knobs and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the simple and straightforward controls unit. Mahogany neck with maple spline in the back is fit with the classic 1959 contour and is attached to the body with a 1950s-styled neck joint (mortise & tenon). Bound rosewood fingerboard on it`s top features 22 standard-sized frets, figured acrylic trapezoid inlays, 12" radius and 1-11/16" wide nylon string nut. Nickel-plated Reissue Kluson™ Deluxe Green Key tuning machines with 12:1 gear ratio are installed on the simple classic headstock (3+3 arrangement is used, as always). The MSRP for this model is set at $7,998.
