Original Gibson models featured chunky, rounded necks. Gradually necks grew thinner, culminating with slim taper shape. But the bulky neck heel remained a burning problem. Eventually Gibson designed the contoured heel named Axcess to attract the modern virtuoso rock players, but despite earning some high-profile supporters it never reached the level of popularity of classic Gibson necks. Nonetheless, Axcess models regularly appear in USA and Custom catalogs. Les Paul Axcess Floyd is one of two Axcess models featured in the current Gibson Custom lineup. With price tag of $5,399, it is some $400 more expensive than the Stopbar variant. Like its twin sibling, this Axcess comes in Ebony and Alpine White. Main features include one-piece mahogany body, plain maple top, one-piece mahogany neck (w/Axcess heel), one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Gibson 498T/496R pickups and gold-plated hardware.
