Axcess is Gibson`s proprietary name for a sculpted neck heel and Axcess-equipped Les Pauls have their special place in Les Paul history. They were made in order to make the classic LP more attractive to fans of thin necks, but they never quite reached the popularity of classic 50s and Slim Taper profiles. Les Paul Custom Axcess Stopbar is one of two Axcess models in current Gibson Custom lineup (the other one sports Floyd Rose bridge and costs some $400 more). With price tag of $4,799 it is among the most affordable Customs at the moment. Ebony and Alpine White variants exist. Main features include one-piece mahogany body (back), plain maple top, one-piece mahogany neck (w Axcess heel), one-piece rosewood fingerboard, Gibson 498R/496T pickups and gold-plated hardware (LP Custom tuners and two-piece bridge).
