Standard Historic SG Standard is advertised by Gibson Custom as the 1961 "Les Paul" that wasn`t to be. The story is that Les Paul hated the design of the "solid-body" Les Paul made as prototype in 1961, proclaiming it "evil looking". Nonetheless, Gibson went on with the design, renaming it SG - Solid Guitar.
Standard Historic SG Standard is an ode to the original 1961 model. As a rule SG models are more affordable than LPs and Gibson Custom keeps the tradition intact with SG Standard being the most affordable model in the lineup ($4,499). Main features include a one-piece mahogany body in Faded Cherry (darker variant comes with stoptail, while the lighter sports a vibrola bar), one-piece slim mahogany neck, one-piece rosewood fingerboard and AlNiCo III Custom Bucker pickups.
