SG '50s Tribute is a brand new model introduced by Gibson USA for 2013 edition of the catalog. It is a part of the four-model tribute series dedicated to Les Paul, his work, achievements and legacy. Each of the four guitars honors one decade, one period. '50s tribute models are made with the first decade of electric guitars in mind. P-90s are installed in both SG and LP variants of the '50s Tribute and both guitars have the same controls sections. Back in the '50s, necks were slightly thicker and wider, thus the '50s rounded contour on mahogany neck of the SG '50s. Neck is set-in and finished in gloss. On top of the neck Gibson installs a rosewood fingerboard with 24 medium-jumbo frets. Figured acrylic trapezoid inlays, 12" radius and 1.55" wide corian nut complete the fingerboard. Body of this model is made of mahogany, it`s thin, flat and without top wood cover. These Tribute guitars feature vintage styling and affordable price tags primarily to attract the younger players. Stripped down aesthetics of these guitars serve the purpose of keeping the price as low as possible. Gibson`s SG '50s Tribute model is available in Cherry, Ebony and Vintage Sunburst.
