In 2013, 400 models have replaced the 300 models in the RG Tremolo and RG Fixed series. 400 models have introduced improved quality, while retaining the familiar design of the RG family. For 2014, Ibanez is refreshing them with minor design changes and improved hardware. RG421QM is one of the novelties introduced at the 2014 NAMM show and is based on the previous RG421QM> It comes with a solid and double-cut body made of mahogany back and quilted maple top. Mahogany is the second most popular body wood in the RG series, after basswood. On the top, RG421QM rocks the classic hardtail bridge with six saddles and string-through-body construction. It is plated in elegant cosmo black. In the front, a pair of passive Ibanez Infinity pickups is installed. There is no single-coil pickup in the middle position, though the pickup switch is a five-position blade. Master volume and master tone knobs complete the controls. Three-piece maple neck with Wizard contour in the back is the standard neck option for the entire RG range (upscale models might feature five-piece necks made of maple and wenge, mahogany, walnut, or rosewood). On it`s top, there is a 24-fret fingerboard with jumbo frets, 1.69" wide string nut and 15.75" radius.
