Guitar players have always experimented with alternative, open and drop tunings. With birth of metal music, drop and down-tuned guitars became essential tools in pursuit of ever more extreme tone. In Ibanez catalog RGD stands for RG series with lower factory tuning. Instead of E-A-D-G-B-E, these guitars come with D-G-C-F-A-D tuning. Other than that, these are regular RG tremolo and RG fixed guitars. RGD420 is the latest installment in the RGD series. It comes with a recognizable soloist shaped body which is made of basswood. The top on this model is deeply carved and finished in satin. The bridge on this model is made by Ibanez, it`s the Edge Zero II double locking tremolo. Hardware color for this RGD is cosmo black. Pickups on this model are also made by Ibanez and are installed in H/H configuration. Controls unit which follows them is very simple and it consists of volume knob with a three-way toggle pickup switch. Neck is made of three pieces of maple and it is equipped with Wizard III profile, one of the fastest contours in the industry. This neck is topped with a traditional rosewood fingerboard. It comes with a set of 24 jumbo-sized frets, dot position inlays, 16" radius and 1.69" wide locking nut. Special feature on this RGD is it`s scale length. In order to better suit the lower tuning, Ibanez elongated the standard 25-1/2" scale, and it now measures 26-1/2.
