Rock, and especially metal, is an ever evolving and growing type of music. Major developments in the 21st century have embraced extended range guitars, continuing on the trends of the last decade of the 20th century. Heavily down-tuned six-strings have become virtually obsolete for some modern styles which developed from the base set in the `90s. Djent metal is the most prominent example, though more and more albums and songs of modern thrash, death, groove and NU metal require the guitars to have access to the extremely low notes. To respond to the trends, and accommodate the players who want to give the extended range guitars a go, Jackson has introduced seven extended range guitars into the X series. SLATHX 3-8 Soloist is one of two eight-string Soloist guitars in the X series roster for 2015. It comes with a solid and contoured body made of basswood and maple (basswood on the wings, maple neck in the middle and the carved quilt maple cap on the top). Hardtail bridge with eight saddles is fronted with an extended range Seymour Duncan pickups - Nazgul in the bridge and Sentient in the neck position. Master volume, master tone and a three-way toggle pickup switch comprise the controls. Fast and slim maple neck rocks the standard 24-fret rosewood fingerboard on top. Piranha inlays, side dot markers and jumbo-sized frets are featured on the fingerboard. Jackson tuners (now in 4+4 arrangement), long 26-1/2" scale and the compound 12"-16" fingerboard radius complete the specs list.
