SLATHXSD 3-8 Soloist is one of two eight-string models Jackson introduces into the X series lineup this year. It is directed towards the players who are looking to test drive an eight-string guitar, and have a tight spending budget. What this extreme axe offers is a solid and contoured body with neck running through it, a fast, slim neck, Seymour Duncan electronics and 24-fret fingerboard. Though it belongs to the X series, this eight-stringer remains faithful to its Soloist roots and comes with neck-through-body construction, which translates to the basswood wings on the sides and maple neck in the middle (the choice of tonewoods is, however, the standard of the X series). Bridge section is equipped with an eight-saddled hardtail bridge with black plating, while the Duncans in their front are the famous Blackouts. The pickups come with a minimized controls unit (master volume, master tone and a 3-way toggle pickup switch). Rosewood fingerboard on this model is a standard one (except its wider to accommodate two extra strings), featuring 24 jumbo-sized frets, piranha inlays and the compound 12"-16" radius. Eight Jackson tuners on the AT headstock and the long 26-1/2" (almost baritone) scale wrap this short review.
