Charvel started the Desolation series in 2011 with ten models and three body shapes, single cut, double cut and skatecaster. Today, two new shapes, star and soloist, are added with five new models. Star shape received three, while soloist starts off with two models, DX-1FR and DX-1 ST. DX-1 ST is a solid bodied, double cutaway model with a body made of mahogany. Optionally, on transparent finishes, there is a flamed maple top. There are seven color options available: black gloss, black flat, transparent black, cherry sunburst, transparent red, transparent blue smear and snow white. There are no pickguards, and trans finishes feature multi-ply binding, while the rest comes with single-ply binding. The bridge is a tune-o-matic with string-through construction and black nickel plating. Pickup department contains active EMG 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck position. They are manipulated through master volume and three-way toggle switch. The neck on this soloist is made of maple with modern contour and neck-through-body construction. The rosewood fingerboard features 24 jumbo frets, abalone sharktooth inlays, compound 12-16" radius and 1.6875" plastic string nut. 25-1/2" scale and black nickel hardware complete the specs. The MSRP for transparent models is set at $866.65, and $799.99 for other color options.
