NAMM 2015: Ibanez Electric Guitar Signatures

With ten models distributed among six guitarists, Ibanez Signature Artist segment spotlights are set on veteran, as well as returning artists.

NAMM 2015 is at hand and Ibanez is slowly unveiling their cards for this year`s edition of the world`s biggest and most important event in the guitar industry. Ibanez`s already huge and super strong signature segment is getting even bigger and stronger. In the solid-body section of the catalog, Ibanez introduces a total of ten new signature models which are divided among six players. The leader of the pack is probably the most popular signature artist this brand has ever had, Steve Vai. His JEM/Universe line receives three updates: wild JEM77P, affordable, yet stunning JEM-JR and a seven-stringed UV71P. Joe Satriani and Paul Stanley series both get two models. JS2450 and JS140 expand the legendary JS line, while the PS120 and PS40 kickstart the eccentric Paul Stanley series. Andy Timmons series develops further with AT10RP, while Paul Gilbert`s Fireman range receives the vintage-modern FRM150 model. Last, but not the least, Head`s series is being extended by the brutal KOMRAD20RS.

Kicking off with the first model of the JEM/Universe trio of novelties, we`ll review the fantastic Ibanez JEM77P. This blue-clad six-string wonder comes with a classic JEM/RG basswood body and a bolt-on maple/walnut neck. Locking Edge tremolo bridge system, DiMarzio pickups (Gravity Storm humbuckers in the bridge and neck; Evolution single coil in the middle) and 24-fret rosewood fingerboard form the core of this uniquely painted JEM. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the JEM77P detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

Next on the list is the new basic JEM six-stringer, the amazing Ibanez JEM-JR. It is nestled halfway between the JEM and the regular RG series. Classic JEM styling with “monkey handle” hole, Edge tremolo, Ibanez Quantum pickups (H/S/H configuration, of course) and rosewood fingerboard with 24 jumbo-sized frets promise supreme quality for a fraction of the price of the series leading models. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the JEM-JR detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

Third and final Steve Vai series update is the seven-stringed Ibanez UV71P. This is a serious axe made for all the shredders out there who ever felt that six strings were not enough for them. American basswood body, maple/walnut neck, DiMarzio`s astonishing Blaze pickups (once again, the H/S/H configuration) and 24-fret fingerboard are offered with the classic JEM/UV styling. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the UV71P detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

Blazing through the Signature Artist range updates, we`ll catch a wave and surf with the alien for a moment. First of two updates in Satch`s signature series is the super-sonic JS2450, which also takes over the flagship spot. It rocks the classic alder/maple construction, iconic JS design, passive DiMarzio pickups (Mo` Joe in the bridge and Satch Track stack humbucker in the neck) and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the JS2450 detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

On the other end of the wave, the affordable Ibanez JS140 rides proud and free. It is the new opening model of the series. American basswood body with the super-fast JS contour, bolted maple neck, Edge tremolo system, 24-fret fingerboard and Infinity RD pickups guarantee the genuine JS series experience. The Starchild is coming back to the Ibanez tribe in 2015. His new signature series features a pair of eccentric Iceman guitars and PS120 takes the role of the series leading model. Classic mahogany/maple construction, ornate bridge unit, Seymour Duncan pickups (custom developed 5TM humbuckers) and a 22-fret ebony fingerboard over the mahogany neck comprise this rocking machine. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the PS120 detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

Paul Stanley line is also being equipped with an entry level model (not to be confused with beginner level of guitars), the mighty Ibanez PS40. Simple, straight forward rocker, with KISS glamour in hints is one of the most accurate descriptions of this work horse. Poplar and maple replace mahogany on the body and neck, respectively, while the rosewood steps in to replace ebony. Infinity R pickups substitute the customized Duncans. Andy Timmons line is being revitalized with the Ibanez AT10RP. This tone machine offers crystal clear sound and unrivaled ease with which it`s player. This supremely versatile and playable six-string rocks the classic alder/maple construction, RG design, non-locking trem, DiMarzio pickups (AT-1/Cruiser/Cruiser) and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard over the wizard-shaped maple neck. With the introduction of the wild and audacious Fireman models (reversed Ibanez Iceman body), Paul Gilbert`s signature line has been brought back to life and is now going through a big resurgence in popularity. FRM150 comes to fill the upper intermediate slot with it`s flat-top mahogany body, set mahogany/maple neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, triple DiMarzio single-coils and a two-piece hardtail bridge. For the full specs list and detailed review, check the FRM150 detail page on our site, or on Ibanez official web page.

Ibanez and Head join forces once more for the limited edition Ibanez KOMRAD20RS. Seven-stringed beast comes with a solid RGD body made of basswood and a bolt-on maple neck. Hardtail bridge, dual DiMarzio PAF 7 humbuckers and 24-fret rosewood fingerboard over the Wizard-shaped maple neck make up the essentials.
