Les Paul Classic is one of the intermediate tiers in the LP hierarchy, as it is located far above the Melody maker, Special, Studio and Junior models, but still beneath the Standard, Deluxe and Custom. In recent years, Classic LP models have become very popular due to their subtle and stylish elegance, versatile tone and marvelous playability. 2014 version of this now standard Les Paul variant brings new slightly vintage-oriented appearance, more versatility than ever, classic pickups and classic construction. Solid and traditionally single-cut body of this model is made of the mahogany base and the carved maple top. It is sculpted in the image of the iconic 1980s Les Paul Standard and also features the vintage weight relief system. As opposed to the modern one used on the upscale Les Paul models, this one has fewer holes and the overall weight of the guitar is somewhere in between the hefty LP models from the 1950s and 1960s and the modern Standards and Customs. There are six color options available: Seafoam Green, Wine Red, Lemon Burst, Vintage Sunburst, Heritage Cherry Sunburst and Ebony. All of them feature the two-piece tops made of figured maple. All six color options come with creme binding, elevated white pickguard and chrome-plated hardware. Bridge section is fit with the standard tune-o-matic/stoptail combo with top-load construction. Both elements are plated in chrome and are common to all current LP models with two-piece bridges (Melody Maker has a one-piece wrap around bridge). In the pickups department, Les Paul Classic is fit with a pair of Classic `57 humbuckers with zebra coils. These pickups aim to recreate the tone of the 1957 pickups for all the fans of the original PAF sound. Controls unit features two volume knobs with push/pull switches, master tone knob, one mini-switch for 15db boost and the standard three-way toggle pickup switch. Via the push/pull switches, the pickups can easily be split into single-coils, while the mini-switch adds extra bite. Mahogany neck on this model is fit with the 160s Slim Taper contour in the back and a standard 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on the top. Traditionally, the neck is attached to the body via the mortise & tenon joint. Fingerboard has cryogenically tempered frets, acrylic trapezoid inlays, 1.695" wide string nut and 12" radius. The MSRP for the new Les Paul Classic is set at $2,069.
