When talking about Les Paul, the first association that comes to mind for many players is the incredible tone these guitars have. Second, it is the remarkable quality of even the lower ranked models in the lineup. Then, there are all the possibilities, models and variants available both on the market and in ads. But, one guitar stands above them all and is the true measure of what a Les Paul is and should be. It is the Les Paul Standard. Ever since it`s introduction in 1958, Standard has taken over the command over the Les Paul regiment and rules with an iron fist. It is suffice to say that the 1959 Les Paul Standard is still the most popular and most desired Les Paul. It is The Les Paul to which all others are compared and positioned in the series roster. For 2014, Gibson has introduced not one, not two, but three Les Paul Standard models. That`s in order to satisfy as many players as possible. the top of the line is 2014 Les Paul Standard Premium. It comes with a top grade quilt maple top and classic tuners. Basic one has the AAA flamed maple top and robotic tuners, while the intermediate version has the AAAA flamed maple top and classic tuners. Solid and single-cut mahogany body of this model is fit with the series standard modern weight relief system of weight reduction holes. This weight relief system is found all over the series, but it`s mostly reserved for the upscale models. Traditional mahogany base is paired with a top notch quilt maple top with creme binding around the edges and vintage gloss finish over it. Instead of six, Les Paul Standard Premium has only four color options: Honeyburst Perimeter, Heritage Cherry Sunburst Perimeter, Ocean Water Perimeter and Rootbeer. Bridge unit on the top is the standard two-piece with chrome plating and six saddles. Classic tuners and the classic bridge unit keep this marvel in perfect tune no matter what. Magnificent Burstbucker Pro pickups come with one of the most elaborate control units seen on a Gibson guitar (excluding the brain melting Firebird X). Two volume knobs feature the standard push/pull knobs for the standard coil-splitting action. Push pull switch on the neck tone knob reverses the polarity of the neck pickup when engaged, while the push/pull switch on the bridge tone knob bypasses the current selection and sends the full bridge humbucker tone straight to the output jack. The standard three-way toggle pickup switch is still located above the neck pickup. Neck on this model is made of mahogany, as are the necks of all upscale Les Paul models in 2014 lineup. It features the asymmetrical slim taper contour in the back (a feature shared with only the top Les Paul models). On it`s top, there is a one-piece rosewood fingerboard with 22 cryogenically tempered frets, figured acrylic inlays, 12" radius and 1.695" string nut. The MSRP for the king of the Les Paul jungle is set at $4,249.

This is a sweet guitar, can play this one standing up for hours as opposed to my traditional LP. Not really impressed with the push pull pots except for the direct line which goes straight into amp. I took off the min E tune system and put Grover locking tuners on. I found the min E tune would go out of tune too easy and never seemed to get the tuning just right. The 120 logo looks cool and the premium root beer quilted top is gorgeous.
