Futura is a relatively young and new concept, when compared to the veterans, such as Studio, Deluxe, Custom, Standard, Special, or even Melody maker and Junior. The unique feature of the Futura concept is it`s clever combination of what people love about Les Paul and what they`ve grown used to, with new and progressive 21st century stuff like robotic tuners, modern neck shapes, advanced electronics, etc. 2014 Futura rocks the modern razor edge styling, along with a smart mix of both old and new features. Lets start with the body. Mahogany base and carved maple top are the standard and can be seen on virtually every LP made in last sixty years. What is special about this one is the modern weight relief system of strategically placed holes. This reduces the weight by a wide margin, while not detracting from the strength and fullness of the tone players are used to. Plain maple cap on top is traditionally made of two pieces of wood. Binding around the top and the classic elevated LP pickguard have been discarded this time. As all of the current Les Paul models, Futura also rocks the classic six-saddled tune-o-matic bridge with stoptail bar in the back. Both parts are plated in chrome and together they form one of the most trusted bridge systems ever made. Together with the robotic tuners on the headstock, they keep Futura`s strings in perfect tune. Latest generation robo tuners can be used as the classic mechanic tuners, or if the player doesn`t feel like it, auto-pilot mode can be engaged. Pickups combo on the current Futura is very interesting, for it combines the modern Burstbucker 3 in the bridge with the P-90 Sidewinder single-coil in the neck position. Bridge pickup can be split through the push/pull switch. P-90 can also be tapped with a push/pull switch. Maple neck is becoming sort of a standard feature on the later Les Paul models, replacing the traditional mahogany necks on many models. Futura is one of them. Futurs`s maple neck is set in and features the super fast `60s Slim Taper contour in the back. This allows the players to unleash their full speed with ease and comfort. On the top, rosewood fingerboard is fit with 22 cryogenically tempered frets, 12" radius, 1.695" wide PLEK nut and figured acrylic trapezoid inlays. The MSRP for the 2014 Futura Les Paul is set at $1,252.
