For 2014, Gibson is introducing a brand new and fresh incarnation of the iconic Studio. Studio kicked off in the 1980s and has become one of the most important and recognizable Les Pauls ever. This new Studio comes with a classic mahogany/flamed maple body. Mahogany in the back features the modern weight relief system of holes placed in strategically picked places. These holes reduce the weight of the mahogany body by a significant margin, while not taking away from the strength and power Les Pauls are known for. Two-piece figured maple top is carved and fit with a classic elevated pickguard. Due to the Studio badge it proudly wears, this gorgeous six-stringer features no binding around the body and neck, as well as other more fancy decorations. Studio is down to earth, straight to business guitar with discretely elegant looks and jaw-dropping performance capabilities. Classic two-piece bridge includes the tune-o-matic bridge with six fixed saddles in the front and a stoptail bar in the back. They`re both plated in chrome. In cooperation with the vintage tuners on the headstock, they keep the Studio perfectly tuned and intonated. Pickups on the Studio are taken from the more expensive models, such as Standard and Deluxe, in order to give the Studio that classic greasy, meaty tone with bucket-loads of sustain. 490R is in the neck position, while the 490T is in the bridge. These two are topped with chrome-plated covers, adding to the sense of subtle elegance. Bridge pickup on the new Studio can handle pretty much anything from the slow and discreet acoustic arpeggio, to groovy rock rhythm, to bone-crushing metal riffs summoned straight from hell. Neck pickup, on the other side gives limitless possibilities for soloing, be it the subtle fills, big epic lead melodies, or shrieking and chaotic solos. Wherever you go, these 490s have got your back. Controls unit is the spiced up version of the classic four-pot setup with a three-way toggle pickup switch positioned above the neck pickup. Push/pull switches mounted on the knobs open a whole new dimension of Les Paul Studio`s tone. As all other budget-friendly Les Paul variants, new Studio also comes with a maple neck. But, instead of the fat `50s contour, Studio rocks the iconic `60s Slim Taper contour. On it`s top, there`s a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with 1.695" wide string nut, 12" radius and figured acrylic trapezoid inlays. The MSRP for the new Studio is set at $1,089.
