NAMM 2015: Fender`s Standard Six-String Electrics

Going for quality instead of quantity, Fender introduces a small, but superior set of six-stringers.

NAMM 2015: Fender`s Standard Six-String Electrics

Fender unveils eleven electric guitars into the regular side of the catalog. American Deluxe, American Standard, Road Worn, Classic and Standard ranges are being updated.

Winter NAMM is the perfect opportunity for the guitar brands to boast their finest and best instruments, and to check out the competition. Usually, the manufacturers tend to put out as many new models as possible and to start the year with a strong push on the market. But, sometimes that can prove to be the wrong approach, especially if the said multitude of the novelties doesn`t actually bring anything new. With the 60th anniversary of Stratocaster celebrated last year, Fender has decided to introduce a smaller number of very carefully selected novelties at 2015 NAMM and as a result of this “quality over quantity” strategy, we have a total of eleven new models on the regular side of the electric guitar segment. American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Shawbucker is the only American Deluxe model, with the American Standard Strat HSS Shawbucker being the only American Standard model and the second of two Strats with the amazing new Shawbucker pickups. Classic series is all about the `60s with `60s Jaguar Lacquer and `60s Jazzmaster Lacquer. Road Worn `60s Jaguar and Road Worn `60s Jazzmaster update the Road Worn range. Standard Jazzmaster HH, Standard Stratocaster HH, Standard Stratocaster HSH, Standard Stratocaster HSS with Floyd Rose and Standard Telecaster HH refresh the Standard range.

Starting from the top of the chain, we introduce you the luxurious American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Shawbucker. This exclusive Strat comes with the ground breaking Tim Shaw humbucker (Shawbucker) pickup, tremolo bridge, 22-fret fingerboard and rich color palette. Next in line is also luxurious American Standard Strat HSS Shawbucker. This is the second of two models fit with the dazzling zebra-coiled wonder-bucker in the bridge position. Two more single coils, tremolo bridge and 22-fret fingerboard (rosewood or maple) over maple neck are featured on this hot six-shooter. Cool and rebellious `60s Jaguar Lacquer is the first of two Classic series updates. Solid and offset alder body with the 1960s contour and styling, bolted maple neck, vintage two-piece bridge and classic Jag electronics make up the core of this short-scale renegade (24“ scale). Jaguar`s long scale twin, the cult Jazzmaster is the second most represented body shape among the eleven updates reviewed here. `60s Jazzmaster Lacquer is one of them. It comes with a solid, offset alder body, two-piece bridge unit, classic Jazzmaster pickups (and electronics) and 21-fret fingerboard. Moving on to the Road Worn series updates, we find the Jag/Jazzmaster duo once again. Road Worn `60s Jaguar offers a solid and flat alder body, vintage electronics with two single-coil pickups for that classic Jag tone, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard and that `60s charisma and poise. Second half of the review section is reserved for the five Standard series models. The first on the list is the astonishing Standard Jazzmaster HH. It comes with a solid and flat alder body, set of two Blacktop humbuckers, floating trem bridge and standard rosewood fingerboard (21 fret). Also fit with a pair of Blacktop humbuckers with zebra-coil design, Standard Stratocaster HH boasts an alder body with a flat top and bolt-on neck joint. Also, it features black plastics, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard (2015 Standard series models do not have maple fingerboard alternatives) and Fender`s sealed tuners. There`s no such thing as too much power and the hot and heavy Blacktop humbuckers on the new Standard models can testify. Standard Stratocaster HSH is one of five 2015 Standards with as much as two Blacktop humbuckers. Luckily, for the fans of the classic Strat single-coil twang Fender has included a push/pull switch on new Standards. Just as there can`t be too much power, there also can`t be too much control and stability. Standard Stratocaster HSS with Floyd Rose can attest. Behind the Standard series singles and the bridge-positioned Blacktop humbucker, Fender installs a licensed Floyd Rose bridge for full control and tuning stability. To display the heavy and modern side of the cult Tele, Fender introduces the powerful Standard Telecaster HH as the fifth Standard series novelty. Solid alder body and two Blacktop humbuckers provide an unprecedented level of power. Of course, like the rest of the Blacktop-loaded Standards, this one comes with the handy push/pull switch for coil-splitting.
